In today’s book review we are talking about The Pawn, a book written by Steven James. The pawn is a Psychological thriller and the first of a planned trilogy, called ‘The Patrick Bowers Files’. Special Agent Patrick Bowers is the main character in this book. He’s an FBI agent specialized in environmental criminology, tracking lawbreakers by analyzing the time and place at which a crime occurred.

When corpses of young women are turning up near Asheville, North Carolina, Patrick Bowers is called in. The serial killer’s MO (Modus Operandi)  is to tie a yellow ribbon in his victims’ hair and leave a chess piece somewhere on the scene. This killer, who always seems to be one step ahead, is about to strike again soon! Bowers needs to act fast and it will take all of his experience and training to stop this man who calls himself the Illusionist. And just when the pieces start to come together, Bowers realizes they’re not quite adding up. Can he unravel the pattern and save the next victim? Or will the Illusionist win the game by taking one of his opponent’s pieces? Thrilling, chilling, and impossible to put down, “The Pawn” will hold suspense lovers in its iron grip until the very last page.

The Pawn was published in 2007 and was the first in a very successful series. The planned trilogy was finished earlier this year with ‘The Rook’ (2008) and ‘The Knight (2010) and recently there even was a 4th book released, called ‘The Bisshop’.
