Book review: The Last Child

Everybody will still remember John Hart’s New York Times bestselling debut “The King of Lies”. His only dream is to become a good writer and to get published. In 2008 he is rewarded for this talent by winning the Edgar Award for this novel “Down River”. Two years later he’s back with “The Last Child”.
The Last Child tell the story of Johnny Merrimon. He had the perfect live. He was happy living with his parents and his twin sister Alyssa. Alyssa went missing a year ago on the side of a lonely street with only one witness. His family shattered, his sister presumed dead, Johnny risks everything to explore the dark side of his hometown. He is desperate to find his sister. What he finds is a city with secrets darker than anyone could’ve imagined. With the help of his only friend and a giant of a man with his own strange past, Johnny finds out the truth.
Detective Clyde Hunt who has devoted an entire year to Alyssa’s case, can’t put the case behind him. His perseverance made him lose his wife and risked his shield. But when another girl goes missing, the failures of the past year hardens him into iron determination. Hunt knows he has to break the rules to make the case; and maybe, just maybe, the missing girl will lead him to Alyssa…
The book simple blows you away. It is well written and is balanced on the edge of good and evil. It is a story about life and death, hope and faith, a perfect blend of interesting characters, plot, emotion and action. When you start reading, it will be hard to put this book down again.
